Shimazuyama is named for the fact that it was once the residence of Duke Shimazu, a former lord of the domain located in what is now known as Kagoshima. The Shimazu residence exists now as the main building of Seisen University. The nature of this place, with its long and distinguished history, has lost none of the refinement that renders it the object of universal envy. The traditional character of Shimazuyama, which allows the breath of local history to seep across the reaches of this residential area on this small hill where time never stops, remains vibrant to this day.
